Visitation 7 p.m. today, Harrod Brothers Funeral Home. was a generous, capable and positive contributor in his profession and in service organizations. After serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII, Bob began working in Air Control and Defense. He became one of only four top-level civilians chosen to engineer and implement our nation's air defense network between the years of 1966 and 1978.

In this capacity, he received the highest governmental awards given to civilians during peace time. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was active in Masonry and the Shrine Band Association. His contributions included musical and leadership talent. He served secretary and then two terms as president the Southeast Shrine Band Association. He served as president of the Shrine Band Association of North America from 1988-90, and was serving as of their executive secretary at the time of his death.

He is survived his wife, Jean Morrow Richards, Lexington; daughter, Ginger Richards Porter, her husband, David Porter, and their daughter, Courtney; sons, RoCharles Richards, Pittsburg, PA, and his daughters, Dawn, Heather, and Delanie, in Don Richards, Los Angeles, A Alfred H. Perrin, 86 HERALD LEADER STAFF REPORT BEREA Alfred H. Perrin, who most of his retirement spent, years helping to better Berea and Berea College, died Sunday, in Spruce Pine, N.C., after long illness. He was 86. After more than 36 years as an editor for Procter Gamble Mr.

Perrin retired to Berea in 1968 and became involved in many college and community affairs. A book collector, he was honorary bibliographer of the college's Hutchins Library he created special exhibits, appraised gift books and publicized events. He was instrumental in helping to build the school's WeatherfordHammond Mountain Collection. He sponsored the summer reading program for children and organized the Friends of the Library. Mr.

Perrin sponsored Berea College's Weatherford Award, which is given each year to the author of what is judged to be the best book written on Appalachia. He and his late wife Jean established the Arthur Flandreau Fund, which supports the production of one play a year at the college. They also started the Griggs-Perrin Highland fund, an emergency scholarship fund for students. He helped support the Mountain Maternal Health League and the League of Women Voters. He was a graduate of the Northwestern University journalism school.

Survivors include a son, Tom Perrin of Celo, N.C.; a daughter, Kate Warner of Ann Arbor, a brother; and two grandchildren. A memorial service is being planned for May 7 at Union Church in Berea. Docia Baldridge Woods, 83 HERALD-LEADER STAFF REPORT PRESTONSBURG Docia Baldridge Woods, who retired from a long teaching career and then became a journalist, died Monday at Highlands Regional Medical Center. She was 83.

Mrs. Woods retired from Mary Todd Elementary School in Lexington. She also had taught at the elementary and junior high school levels in Morehead and had taught in the Eastern Kentucky University English department. After retirement she was society editor of the Floyd County Times for 16 years. She also had submitted articles to other Kentucky newspapers.

Frank Blair, an anchorman on NBC's "Today" show for 22 years, died at his home yesterday at 79. The cause of the death was not disclosed. His death came 20 years to the day after Blair gave his last newscast on "Today." He anchored the news desk from 1953 to 1975. He began his broadcasting career in the 1930s, working at radio stations in Charleston, Columbia and Greenville. In 1937, he moved to WOL in Washington, where he covered news and special events.

A former employee for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, she held positions as a Director of the Division of Worker's Compensation, Deputy Secretary for the Kentucky Labor Cabinet, and Administrative Law Judge for the Department of Workers' Claims, and had been a member of the Kentucky Labor Cabinet.

She was a member, deacon, and choir member of Central Christian Church and had served on various committees. She particularly enjoyed the Christian Women's Fellowship (Circle 15). Survivors include two da ghters, Margaret and Rebecc: Havens; three grandchi' ren, Christopher Havens, and nily and Peter King; and a br her, Douglas Shively.
