Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse

Sparkling with the musings of the wizard Mordenkainen, this tome compiles and updates monsters that originally appeared in Volo's Guide to Monsters and Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes.

The book is a supplement to the 5th edition Monster Manual (2014) and Player's Handbook (2014). It is also a replacement book for two older supplements – Volo's Guide to Monsters (2016) and Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes (2018).

If you can only get one, get the MM. It's got all the basic, most common monsters in the game. But if you can get both, get both. They're two separate books with no overlap, you'll definitely need the monster manual first though.

I'd almost say, in fact, that Monsters of the Multiverse is less of a must-buy if you don't already have Volo's and Mordenkainen's, and the reason for that is the indispensable lore content in the latter two books, particularly with respect to hags (in Volo's), fiends (in Mordenkainen's) and gith (also in ...
