Job DescriptionThe intern provides assistance in modeling and analyzing the power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. They also provide system modeling assistance in programs such as PSS/E, PowerWorld, Milsoft, and SynerGEE/Synergi. The internship would also include researching historical data as needed for planning studies and cost estimations. An intern would also become familiar with transmission, sub-transmission, and distribution line drawings and substation drawings.
Essential Functions
Assist in modeling and analyzing the power system by participating in the development and/or enhancement of the distribution system database or the transmission system modeling.
Assist in developing system studies by performing power flow and fault analyses, and documenting results.
Review and apply system conditions to system database development.
Work on projects as directed by the Planning Engineer (EIT).

Competencies
Must have basic understanding of the operation and theory of power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
Must have a basic understanding of power system analysis techniques.
Must have practical working knowledge of computer software and hardware.
Must possess the ability to review and apply system conditions to system database development.
Must possess the ability to meet timelines and schedules and write clear, concise reports.
Must possess the ability to learn communication, teamwork, and organizational skills with strong work ethic.
Strong verbal communication and team skills are desirable.
Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
Most of the work will be performed in a standard office environment but a portion of the work could be in the field in varying weather conditions. Low probability of flights in fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters may arise if assignment or task is at remote location.
Minimum Qualifications And Experience
Education
Completion of Junior-level course work in an accredited undergraduate Electrical Engineering Degree Program, required. Course work with power system emphasis, preferred.
Active enrollment in accredited undergraduate program, required.
