What You Need to Make Famous Dave’s Bread Pudding
For the Bread Pudding
- 6-7 slices day-old bread, torn into small pieces
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2⁄3 cup raisins
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 3/4 cupssugar
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup half-and-half
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoonvanilla extract
For The Pecan Praline Sauce
- 1/2 cup (or 1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (or coconut sugar)
- 1 teaspoonvanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
How to Make Famous Dave’s Bread Pudding
- Preheat your oven to 350 F (175 C). Lightly grease an 8 inch square baking pan with butter (or oil), then add in the bread pieces. Drizzle melted butter over the bread and mix in the raisins.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, half-and-half, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until combined. Pour over the bread mixture (you may need to use a fork to push the mixture down so the bread is covered in the liquid).
- Bake for 40-45 minutes. The top of the bread pudding should spring back when you tap it lightly.
- Remove the bread pudding from the oven, then let cool for 5 minutes. When ready to eat spoon a portion of the bread pudding into a bowl, then drizzle with warm pecan praline sauce (recipe below). Add a scoop of ice cream on top and a generous dollop of whipped cream on the side, just like the original Famous Dave’s Bread Pudding. ENJOY!
Make The Praline Sauce
- In a heavy saucepan, add the unsalted butter, heavy cream, brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
- Mix in the chopped pecans and simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the sugar dissolves and the pecan praline sauce thickens. Remove from heat, then pour over the bread pudding.
